City Faces in Different Places

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 05, 2021 from City Faces

This week’s Bridgeport City Face is Jennifer Snyder. Learn about her and why she loves her hometown below.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? I moved here in 1999. I was always impressed with the academics and sports programs Bridgeport had to offer. It offered great opportunities.

Tell me about your family … I have been married to Chris Snyder since 1999. I have two stepdaughters, Shawna Weaver and Kali Snyder. Sydney Snyder is my only daughter. She is a senior at BHS. We also have four grandchildren.

What about pets? I lost the best dog I ever had on July 4, a Shitzu named Abner. We had him for 11 years. He was such a joy to be around. He never left your side and was always happy to see you when you got home.

Where do you work and what do you do there? I have worked at Verizon for 28 years. I am a customer service clerk. I work for a director over the Potomac East Coast and compile reports all day in Excel and send to different teams.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times? I enjoy camping and being outdoors. We have a permanent camp spot at Alpine Shores in Elkins. I’m pretty crafty and my favorite motto is, “I will try to make anything once, but I can’t guarantee it will get done twice.” Lol

What’s your favorite spot in Bridgeport? I love Bridgeport High School football. But that is just one! I truly love watching all the kids play in their sport if it’s either softball, swim, basketball – you name it. They put so much time and effort into their training, the least I can do is come out and watch them doing what they love!!

Why is Bridgeport such a good place to live? My favorite thing about our town is the dedication parents and the community give to one another. If I asked 10 people to come give me a hand with something, they would be there. If we needed to pitch in and help a family in need or a child needs support, they would be there.

What’s one or more of your favorite memories in Bridgeport? One of my favorite memories was watching my daughter perform at BHS Homecoming assembly her freshman year for BHS Danceline. She has danced since she was 3 years old, but this was unlike any other moment. The world stopped and everything clicked. I had chills watching her perform and when I think about it, it still gives me goosebumps! Lol

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport? That’s a very hard choice! West Virginia has so many beautiful locations!
How about your favorite spot outside of WV? I would have to say Myrtle Beach. Growing up and through the years, this has been one of my most frequented places to travel. And as a matter of fact, I love the one-hour flight! You are on the beach before you know it and feet in the sand sounds good anytime!

What are some of your favorite things? Some of my greatest accomplishments were being a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. I would like to think I made a huge impact on the children who came through my class.  They were all such a joy and challenge for me in the same sense to better my knowledge of God and encourage their little minds to crave his presence.

I also enjoy being active with my daughter’s senior class at BHS. My husband and I are always making things and giving our time for the kids. We wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the kids!

Favorite food/restaurant? I love the pizza from Twin Oaks. I tell my crew I could eat it every day!

Favorite color? My favorite color is purple.

Favorite genre/artist? My kids think I’m crazy, but I don’t listen to country! I am an “oldies” girl, music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Hair Nation on Sirius XM is a good one too.

What’s your best childhood memory? That would be getting my first car at age 16.

Interesting fact about you or something you would like to add? Even with this pandemic going on, I choose to live each day without fear. I am blessed with the life I’ve been given and the people that have been part of it!
