City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on August 30, 2020 from City Faces

Thanks to Denise Harbert for being this week’s City Face of Bridgeport.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? I’ve been in Bridgeport for 21 years. I moved from Shinnston to Bridgeport in 1999.

Tell me about your family. I have two kids.

Victoria went to Simpson Elementary, Bridgeport Middle and graduated from Bridgeport High School. She is currently a student at Fairmont State, pursuing a degree in the nursing program. I am very proud of her choice to become a nurse. She is very caring and loving.

Christopher attended Simpson Elementary, Bridgeport Middle School and is currently a junior at Bridgeport High.  He is on the high School baseball team and he also traveled with the Mid Atlantic Red Sox.

My parents are Jeanne Akers and the late Randall Akers of Enterprise.

What about pets? Tyson Bently is our 4-year-old boxer and Jace is our 8-year-old cat.

Where are you employed and what do you do? I work as a manager in the Cancer Center at WVU Medicine/United Hospital Center.

What is your favorite place in Bridgeport? Bridgeport Recreation Complex and BHS baseball field.

What is special about our city? Why is it a good place to live? Bridgeport is a wonderful place to live. It is very friendly and is a family-oriented community with excellent schools.

What are your favorite memories in Bridgeport? Watching many baseball games, but most of all the 12-year-old All Stars win their 3rd state championship and Christopher named the state MVP.

What is your favorite spot outside WV?  I enjoy taking my kids to visit with family in Florida.

What are some of your favorite things?
Spending time with Victoria and Christopher, whether it is baseball, camping, beach trips or just a trip to get ice cream.

My favorite food and restaurant is pasta at Muriale’s.

Favorite color is blue

My favorite music is country, especially Florida Georgia Line

What are your best childhood memories? Spending time with family on the Greenbrier River at our camp, fishing with my dad, floating in the river with cousins, and eating my mom’s awesome food!

What is an interesting fact about you?   I do like to fish and be outdoors.
