City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on March 28, 2021 from City Faces

Today's Bridgeport City Face is Nikki Henderson. Meet her here!

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here ...
I have lived in Bridgeport for seven years. I fell in love with the way the community stood behind and supported each other. In a world where everything is so quick to change, it’s nice that some places hold on to remaining the same. Bridgeport has a small-town feel.

Our family had experienced a series of tragic and unfortunate events and we were looking for a clean slate and fresh start. With everything that's happened  - the good, bad, ugly and everything in between - I try to find the lesson in whatever life brings.

Tell me about your family
I have 4 beautiful children. They are my entire world. 3 boys and 1 girl. Bailey (23) Works at Lamar Advertising, Brian (19) Student at FSU majoring in engineering, Peyton (18) Senior at BHS & MacKenzie (16) Sophomore at BHS. It has been so amazing to watch them grow into such amazing young adults. My greatest accomplishment for sure is being their mom.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I work at Johnson Elementary. I absolutely love working in my Preschool classroom. If you ever want to know what wild, crazy, fun and hands on learning looks like please stop by. We learn through play which means we are on the go from start to finish. We are their first experience inside of a school setting, so of coarse we want them to love it.

I am also a Thrive Nutrition and Skincare Promoter locally here in Bridgeport. I absolutely love the product and the changes it has made in my life. Being able to focus on my health and wellness as well as that of others is very important to me. I have lost very important people in my life for various health reasons. If I can open one person's eyes, help change someone's outlook on things and help my family along the way...it’s a no brainer!!! I’m in 100 percent.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I love to take photos of everything! By no means am I a professional, but I do know the importance and value of these precious things. I’ve driven my kids crazy for years, but now I think they just let me do it and move on without complaining too much lol. Writing for me is an outlet. I have journals and notebook pages filled. One day I would love to write a book. I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve been through a lot and I think I have something that could help people to know they aren’t so alone. Hiking has been something that I have recently gotten into. It’s extremely challenging depending on the terrain and area, but so rewarding. I have explored so many amazing places that I would have never imagined. It's crazy what you can accomplish and learn when you get out of your own way. Heading to concerts in the summer is so much fun! Singing loud, dancing and just having fun with friends are some of my favorite things...so, yes I’m praying hard that concerts make a comeback soon!

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
Hands down my favorite spot over the past 7 years has been Wayne Jamison Field on a Friday night.
Second would be Hinkle & Degan for a nice peaceful walk or run.

What do you like about Bridgeport ... why is this a good place to live?
I love the way the community always comes together to support whatever is needed. Bridgeport is a community that has high expectations and standards for those who reside there. That's important to me because shouldn’t we all strive for ourselves and those around us to push to be better?

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
Two of my most favorite memories in Bridgeport revolve around football. The first is the 2019 senior mom/son dance. We practiced for weeks...I cherished every second that I got to spend laughing and making memories with my son. I also grew friendships with my fellow senior moms and some of them will absolutely last a lifetime.

The second memory I will cherish forever is my boys winning the final playoff game at Wayne Jamison Field together during the 2019 season. My boys Brian and Peyton celebrated together on that field and words can’t begin to describe the emotion tied to that win. They were heading to states and they earned it together.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Stonewall Resort is one of my favorite places. I enjoy hiking, being out on the water, and enjoying a nice dinner with family and friends.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
Montana is by far my favorite place to visit. Its beauty is unreal! Not gonna lie. It's hard sometimes to get on the plane and leave it behind.

What are some of your favorite things?
Anything outdoors enjoying the sunshine
Working out
I typically have music playing in my house or car...there's something about a good song that either makes you want to dance, think or cry.

Food/restaurant?
My favorite restaurant has to be Muriels. Can’t go wrong with chicken parm.
Brickside is another favorite spot. I love the food and being able to catch up with friends.
My favorite food.....does cheesecake count as food? lol
Favorite color?
Blue

Music genre/artist?
I like all types of music but hands down country is my favorite. If curious, you can hear me singing along in my car.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add...
I pray that I am remembered for being a good mom, for being compassionate to others and never afraid to love too much!
