City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on May 02, 2021 from City Faces

If you're involved in scouting - or Bridgeport football - you may know this week's City Face, Jason Hosaflook. Learn all about him and why he's proud to call Bridgeport home:

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
My parents, David & Kathy Hosaflook, moved us to Bridgeport when I was in kindergarten. I graduated from BHS in 1995.  After graduating college from WVU in 1999 with a degree in nursing, I moved to Charleston, WV to work and attend graduate school until I returned to Bridgeport in 2003.

Tell me about your family.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Janeal Defazio Hosaflook, for 21 years. We both graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1995.  We have two children. Brady is 16 and currently a sophomore at BHS. He plays the saxophone in the marching band and is an active member of Troop 40, currently working on his Eagle Scout project. Claire is 13 and is in the 7th grade at BMS. She plays clarinet and enjoys skiing, volleyball, skateboarding and “Grey’s Anatomy.” I have an older sister, Heather Hosaflook King, who lives in Maryland and is retired from the Navy.  Both my parents and my in-laws, Neal and Jacki Defazio, are retired and still reside in Bridgeport.

What about pets?
We have a black and white beagle/walker coon hound mix named Oreo.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I work at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. I am a CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and have provided anesthesia services to St. Joseph’s since 2003.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I love the outdoors and enjoy hunting, fishing, and snow skiing. I am currently the Scoutmaster with Bridgeport Troop 40, so I get to do a lot of camping and hiking with them as well.  I also enjoy time on the water with my family in the summer at Stonewall Jackson Lake on our boat.  We are also a Disney- loving family, so we enjoy going there as much as we can.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
My favorite spot is probably Wayne Jamison Stadium. I have so many memories there, from going to games as a kid and then to playing in games in high school. I still enjoy attending the games now watching the next generation carry on the tradition. It’s always a great atmosphere.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
The best thing about Bridgeport is that even though it is growing fast and opportunities keep expanding, it hasn’t lost its small-town feel and values.  The community support for all activities is strong and each generation continues to build on the traditions of the past success.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
Birthday parties at Tucillos Pizza, every football game I ever played with the cheers and the cow bells ringing.  We always needed more cow bell.  Helping build the homecoming float even though Coach Jamison always told us not to let those girls distract us.  Now it is getting to see my children benefit from such a great community and school system.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Timberline/Canaan Valley area. We spend time there all year long.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
The place we enjoy and go the most is Disney World

What are some of your favorite things?

Food/restaurant?
Bridgeport has so much great food.  I enjoy seafood and Italian food.  Our favorite restaurant spots are Mia Margherita and Oliverio’s. For dessert, we love My Little Cupcake and Almost Heaven Desserts.

Favorite color?
Camouflage

Music genre/artist?
I like a variety of types of music, but I mostly listen to country, from George Strait to Garth to Tim McGraw and Luke Bryan. I also like classic metal and hip hop/rap if it’s the good stuff from the 80’s and 90’s.

What is your best childhood memory?
There are so many.  I loved when I was playing Pop Warner football as a kid and would see the high school players practice across the fence.  I remember they seemed like giants.  I couldn’t wait until I played on that level. Also, boy scout meetings at Simpson Creek Baptist Church and getting my Eagle Scout honor there. And participating in our senior play, Guys and Dolls, was a blast.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
I’m pretty good at voice impressions, especially of old Coach Jamison.
