City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on April 17, 2022 from City Faces

This week's Bridgeport City Face is Sarah Godwin. You might find her working at Freedom Kia - or working her farm. Meet her here:

I am Sarah Godwin, wife to Eric Godwin and mother to Ariana Fogle who is a Junior, Isabella Fogle who is a Sophomore at Bridgeport High School and Rylee Fogle who is in 3rd grade at Johnson Elementary School.  I grew up in Buckhannon, attending Buckhannon Upshur High School graduating in 1998, then went to WV Wesleyan College where I studied Nursing. I moved to Bridgeport in 2007 and knew this is where I wanted to raise my girls.

Tell us about your pets ...
We have too many pets to list, we have a farm in Moatsville. I fell in love with the farm after visiting it for the first time when my husband's Uncle Elmer - who owned the farm - had passed away. I told him I would love to get some cows and raise them, which completely shocked him, so we bought our first cow, Big Red from my Cousin Leslie and we now have about 50 head.  We raise registered Scottish Highland Cattle and Angus Cattle for beef.  We have 6 Nubian Goats, which we got because my husband loves goat milk and who doesn’t love baby goats?  We have 2 Alpacas we purchased from Derek and Amber Hughes, who have a beautiful farm here in Bridgeport. When the Covid epidemic happened, I wanted to get chickens for my girls to raise, so I ordered eggs and we started hatching babies. Hatching babies was a great learning experience for them and we got a lot of beautiful Silkie Chickens from many different farms in many different states. We also have 2 French Bulldogs Luna and Timber, who just had their 3rd litter of puppies, Charlie is our Yorkie and Duke is my husband’s German Short Hair Pointer.

If you have a significant other, tell us how you met
I dated my husband for about 10 years. We grew up together and everyone knew us as one, you couldn’t say Sarah without Eric and vice versa.  We were high school sweethearts - young - and went our separate ways.  I got married and had my beautiful girls. Years later, after my divorce, Eric sent me a message and we reconnected and have been back together ever since.  We got married in 2019 at Elk Springs, a beautiful little hidden gem tucked away in the mountains, where we love to go to fly fish.  Eric is a welder and runs and operates his own business, Godwins Iron Works LLC.

Why do you like it here?
I love the small town community we have here, it is a wonderful place to raise a family. The community always supports its children and the educational system is top notch.

What's your favorite event here in our city?
We love Light up Night and  it is something my girls look forward to every year.

What about a spot that you frequent?
We can't  say we have a favorite one spot we frequent, but we love Oliverio's, one of our favorite restaurants.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I have been in the car business for about 12 years and work at Freedom Kia here in Bridgeport, where I am the Finance Manager.

What are some of your favorite pasttimes and hobbies?
I love to escape to the mountains to fly fish. It is something that I don’t get to do nearly enough, but absolutely love doing it.  I also enjoy the farm, the fresh air and all the animals.

Do you have any goals - personal or professional - either shortterm or longterm?
My goal is to run the farm full-time. That is what I love and where I want to be longterm.
Tell us about one of your favorite Bridgeport memories.
When the girls were younger I coached cheerleading for the Pee Wee and Midget teams.

What are your favorite area foods/restaurants?
We go to Las Trancas quite often. We love the food and service and, of course, our favorite is Oliverio's.

What tunes are on your playlist?
I have a wide variety of music on my playlist, from 90’s hip hop to Country.

What about favorite movies or TV shows? Are you streaming anything now or have recently that you recommend?
Really I don’t have time to watch a lot of movies or shows but I always enjoy turning on Dr. Pol and learning from him. He is a great vet.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Bora Bora or the Great Barrier Reef.

What is one or more of your past favorite vacations?
Jamacia by far was the best vacation ever, and I can't wait to go back.

What is an interesting tidbit about you?
I am a country girl who loves to be outdoors and who lives for her family and husband.
