Editor's Note: Fires in Bridgeport are not uncommon. Fire staff being called to the scene following an explosion in a combined business and residential structure on Main Street is rare. Such was the case in 2025 when an explosion rocked the Dairy Queen building on Main Street and not only shut down the business, but required the upstairs apartments and neighboring popcorn business to be closed as well. The explosion shook more than one building on Main Street, but a quick response by fire staff reduced damage and quick work by contractors got the businesses - and the apartments - open quickly. The story, by Jeff Toquinto, ran on Connect-Bridgeport.
