Demolition Project Under Way at Bridgeport Middle

By Jeff Toquinto on March 16, 2023

About this time next week, things should be back to normal in front of Bridgeport Middle School. For the next several days, however, things may look a bit dusty and brittle.

The reason for that is that a pair of planters that are home to trees and usually plants in the warm weather months are in the process of being demolished. The planters are original to the school that opened in the spring of 1995.

The reason for the removal has nothing to do with anyone being against trees or plants. Rather, the planters have seen better days.

“We’re going to take down the trees and the planters. In about a week, give or take a few days, you won’t know they were there,” said Danny Dennison, Harrison County Board of Education Maintenance Director.

After the demolition, as weather permits, concrete will be poured in the area where the planters used to be. The two planters, it should be noted, are at the main entrance to the building.

Harrison County Schools Assistant Superintendent of Transportation and Facilities Jimmy Lopez said the work will be done in-house. The work began Wednesday as equipment was being unloaded to get the process started.

The work is not expected to impact the education of students at the school.
