Healthy Faces: Meet Dr. Jim Malone

By Julie Perine on March 20, 2021 from Healthy Faces

"Healthy Bridgeport" is comprised of health-concious individuals; the same group that served as the steering committee for Team
Bridgeport in The Health Games, sponsored by Healthy Harrison.

After winning the competition between cities, Healthy Bridgeport is off and running with a number of initiatives, all intended to make residents healthier. To date, a free health app has been launched, The Biggest Loser and 10% Takedown weight loss competitions are underway and a 5K and Wellness Festival are in the works.

Learn more about Healthy Bridgeport and all of its programs HERE at the Healthy Bridgeport Web site. Download the free Healthy Bridgeport app at The App Store. Interact by tracking your goal progress and you might just win some fitness-related prizes. Brand new is the collaboration with Healthy Nutter Fort. Registration remains open through March 11 to take part in those challenges. All eligible Harrison County residents are invited to join. Learn more HERE.

Each week, Healthy Bridgeport features a "Healthy Face." Today, we take a different twist as we shine the spotlight on Dr. Jim Malone. Learn about him and his healthy priorities here:

Tell us a little about yourself ...
I was born and raised in Clarksburg and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1982. I received my undergraduate from WVU in '86 and graduated in 1990 from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I wanted to be a physician since the age of 8. I practice medicine at United Hospital Center family practice, where I met my wife Lesli. We have been married 27 years and have two children; Mason, 22, and Bella, 23. We also have one granddaughter, Jeweliana.

What is your favorite self-help book?
"Resisting Happiness" by Matthew Kelly.

What's your favorite healthy meal?
Grilled mahi and roasted vegetables.

What about your favorite workout?
My favorite workout is a 5-mile run with my best friend James Goots.

Do you have any advice to leading a healthy life?
In my opinion, one of the secrets to a healthy life is a healthy lifestyle while balancing a workout four days a week for 45 minutes at a time with your work schedule and your family schedule.

What is your favorite motivational quote?
My favorite motivational quote is by the Dalai Lama: "Happiness is superficial, but joy is internal and everlasting"
When did your health journey start?
My journey to health started my second year in medical school during the stress and long hours of studying. A good friend of mine took me on my first 3-mile run and I was hooked ever since then. It helps me to balance life and stress and work.

Any other advice about living a healthy life?
Always remember God rested on the seventh day. We need time to properly sleep, properly eat, exercise and meditate. These are the four pillars of health.
