Off the Shelf: Outdoor Holds Lockers Coming Soon

Something new is coming to the Bridgeport Public Library!
When the library is closed, your options are limited.
Our digital library like Libby and Hoopla are always open, but what if that hold you've been waiting on for weeks comes in, but you can't make it to the library before we close for the weekend?
We have a solution coming soon!
In 2025, we installed an indoor holds locker in our front lobby.
The locker allows you to pick up your holds using your library card, and once you remove your items from the locker, they check out automatically.
Now, we have taken that same idea and added a similar locker outside.
Our new outdoor holds locker will be open 24/7, so you will be able to pick up your holds even when we are closed.
You can place holds on your lunch break or while you wait for your child to get out of school, and our staff will have your holds ready for you.
All you need to do if you are placing your holds online is select the Bridgeport PL 24/7 Outdoor library as your pickup location instead of Bridgeport PL.
Then you can pick up your holds at your convenience whether that's at 12 a.m. or 12 p.m. and all hours in between.
The first time you visit the outdoor holds locker, you will need to either scan your library card or type in your card number.
It will ask you what your locker preference is.
You can choose tall, middle, or short shelves, and the locker will remember your choice.
If you have holds, your locker will open, and you can remove your items. If there is something you decide you don't want after all, just leave it in the locker, and staff will remove it.

We anticipate launching the holds locker by October 2026.
While you can't use it right now, you can see the locker when you visit the library through the front entrance.
We will make an official announcement across our social media platforms when you can start using the lockers.
