Ribbon Cut for Champion Pharmacy at The Square

By Jeff Toquinto on January 13, 2022

It was nearly two years ago that Champion Pharmacy announced it would open shop at The Square in Bridgeport. It was in June of 2019 that the independently owned business announced it was coming to the city.

On Wednesday, with officials from Harrison County and Bridgeport on hand, the business finally held an official ribbon cutting. The delay, as one may have imagined was COVID-related.

“That was one of the reasons for sure,” said co-owner Michael LeMasters. “(The Harrison County Chamber of Commerce) let us know they didn’t forget about us, but just wanted to make sure it got done. We just waited for the world to open up a little bit.”

While the world was opening up, Champion Pharmacy was already open. The 1,800 square foot business located next to Bridgeport Running at The Square has, according to LeMasters, been steady with the business that features a drive through service as well. LeMasters, as well as the head pharmacist, said they have plenty offer.

“We do everything from compounding medications, and we do immunizations along with having all kinds of over-the-counter options,” said Aaron Rarick, who also serves as the pharmacy manager. “… If you can’t find what you need here, there is a good chance we can order it.”

One thing ownership stressed, along with the standard options available, is offering items on the veterinarian pharmacy front.

“Pets are indoors for the most part and are members of the family,” said LeMasters. “We work with the local veterinarians to help with any services they may need.”

There is one other thing offered. Rarick said the store has a large selection of Melissa & Doug Toys.

Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang was on hand for the event. He welcomed them to the community and wished them luck moving ahead. LeMasters is looking for a long run in Bridgeport.

“We’re the new independent pharmacy here in town and we look forward to being a cornerstone in the community of Bridgeport for many, many years to come,” he said.

There are currently three employees at the store. Ownership is planning on expanding the employee base as growth continues. Along with LeMasters, the other two owners are Eric Belldina and Ron Selders.

Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the business closed Sunday.

There are four other Champion Pharmacy locations in North Central West Virginia. The pharmacies include Pierpont Landing Pharmacy in Morgantown, Belldina’s Pharmacy in Masontown, Preston Family Pharmacy in Kingwood, and Highland Pharmacy and Wellness in Kingwood.
