State Police Announce Upcoming Sobriety Checkpoint
By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 27, 2026
FROM THE WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE
The West Virginia State Police will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint in Marion County on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 6:00 pm until 12:00 am. This Checkpoint will be conducted as an effort to deter intoxicated driving in this area.
It is not the intention of the West Virginia State Police to inconvenience any of the motoring public, but only to make the roadways safer for those traveling in West Virginia. The Checkpoint will be conducted on Speedway Avenue in Fairmont. If anyone feels they do not wish to travel through the checkpoint on Speedway Avenue because they feel inconvenienced, they can take an alternate route. The alternate routes are Suncrest Boulevard to Morgantown Avenue if traveling southbound and East Park Avenue to Morgantown Avenue if traveling northbound.
If weather events become a concern for officers and the public’s safety, we may revert to a saturation patrol of Marion County instead.
Editor's Note: West Virginia State Police and local law enforcement agencies are required under state and constitutional standards to publicly announce DUI (sobriety) checkpoints in advance. This notice may run again prior to the checkpoint.
