Tribe Cheer Team Captures Big 10 Title

By Julie Perine on November 15, 2019

The Bridgeport High School cheerleading team picked up its third victory of the competition season Thursday at the Big 10 Cheer Championships at  Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Coach Natalie Hathaway said the Big 10 was a good opportunity to compete against teams not in Class AA Region II, including some AAA teams.

BHS topped Lewis County Liberty, Lincoln, North Marion, Philip Barbour, Preston County, Robert C. Byrd, Buckhannon-Upshur, East Fairmont, Elkins, Fairmont Senior and Grafton.

The Lady Indians started their competitive season Nov. 2 at the George Washington Invitational in Charleston. After taking top honors there, they went on to capture the top spot at the region Saturday, Nov. 9, qualifying them for the Class AA cheer championships Dec. 14 at Marshall University.

Lincoln High School captured the runner-up spot at both the Region II and Big 10 competitions. Second place in regionals qualified the Lady Cougars for Class AA state competition.

Janet Hathaway serves as assistant coach for the Tribe cheer team which consists of seniors Miranda Kress, Addison Boggs and Alyson Gibson; sophomores Lilly Strait, Emilia Underwood, Lillian Iaquinta, Gyllian Wagner, Lauran Johnston, Jade Nguyen and Rylee Mullins and freshmen Andie McCall, Abigail Davis, Lexi Wilkinson, Brynna Greathouse, Sally Hamrick and Abigail Clifton.
