USA Boxing Event Coming to Clarksburg

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 06, 2024

Steve Cross Boxing and the Clarksburg City Parks announce the first USA Boxing event in Clarksburg as the City Parks of Clarksburg will host “Boxing in the Burg” this February at the Indoor Facility at the Clarksburg City Park.

Tickets are on sale now for general admission seating as well as ringside tables for groups of eight.

“Once hired last summer, Steve Cross approached me about hosting an event here at the facility and I thought it was a winning idea from the beginning,” said Doug Comer, Superintendent of City Parks. “There is a ton of planning to get this off the ground and Steve has been heavily involved in getting all things in order for the event. We expect a great night of fights by some of the best talent in the tri-state area.”

Cross has been involved with boxing in the Clarksburg area and has done all things as a trainer, official and judge.  Much of the local talent in this area has been influenced by Cross over the years. To add, the main fight will include Harrison County native Alex Looman, who trains under Cross, as he faces off against Pittsburgh’s Tommy Parker. This will be the feature bout of 19 matches scheduled for the evening.

“The feedback already received has been positive which makes me anticipate a sell out for the event,” said Comer. “The planning and preparation will be worth all the effort when it is done, and we hope to make this a bi-annual event. The indoor facility is a perfect venue for events like this and utilizing it during the summer months with activities like this just adds to the value of it.”

Fight night will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 and tickets can be purchased online through the following link at https://cityparksofclarksburg.wufoo.com/forms/qest8e914e4w9y/or contacting the Parks Office at 304-624-1655.

Ticket prices for General Admission is $25 per person. Seating will be limited to 200 seats, on a first-come, first-served basis.
