WVDNR Announces '26 Fall Trout Stocking Schedule
By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 19, 2026
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) today announced its fall trout stocking schedule, affording anglers the opportunity to fish during the peak fall foliage season.
During the weeks of Oct. 19 and 26, the WVDNR will stock about 40,000 pounds of trout at nearly 40
lakes and streams across the state. Each water will receive one stocking each week for a total of two stockings. Trout stocking locations are listed on pages 6 and 7 of the 2026 Fishing Regulations Summary at WVdnr.gov
“Fall stocking is a great time to fish for trout and a gorgeous time to be outdoors when fall colors are peaking around West Virginia,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. “We encourage you to take your family members and friends and enjoy this unique opportunity.”
Anglers are encouraged to keep a close eye on their catch for a chance to win a lifetime fishing license as part of the Governor’s Tagging Contest. WVDNR officials will release a specially designated fish bearing a pink tag. The angler who successfully lands this tagged fish and submits a report following the instructions printed on the tag will be awarded a lifetime fishing license.
All anglers 15 years and older are required to have a West Virginia fishing license, trout stamp and a valid form of identification while fishing for trout. Licenses and stamps can be purchased at 160 retail locations across the state or online at WVfish.com
