We are less than a month away from this year’s Associated Businesses of Bridgeport Summer Kickoff and Food Truck Festival.
From 5-8 p.m., Saturday, June 1, community members can expect their favorite annual activities like live entertainment, car cruise-in, kids’ inflatables, giant sandbox, and the crowd-favorite beach ball drop.
But this year, for the first time, the event will include an Apple Pie Baking Contest.
Committee members think it's an ideal addition to the event. It’s just so Americana. What says smalltown summer celebration better than apple pie?
The contest will be sponsored by Della’s Deli, which will provide prizes for winners, including not only the traditional blue, red and white ribbons, but also keepsake pie servers indicating contest placement for the top three spots. The first-place winner will also receive a pie-themed prize package.
A judge’s panel consisting of Mayor Andy Lang and City Council members will judge the pies on a grading system considering taste, filling consistency, crust, and overall appearance. All bakers are encouraged to participate. Pies must be made from scratch and submitted in a disposable pan.
A designated table near the event Main Stage will be set up and pies can be dropped off between 5 and 6 p.m. Judges will taste and rate pies between 6 and 6:30 p.m. and winners will be announced at 7 p.m.
A registration form can be downloaded HERE. Deadline to enter is Friday, May 24.
