Area Man Pronounced Dead after Falling into Creek

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding an active water rescue at 732 McDowell Lane in Rock Cave.
The resident, Roger Haymond, 44, and his wife had gone to the stream located on the property to fill water jugs. Roger Haymond attempted to fill a water jug but fell in the creek. The female had left the scene, returned to the house, and had 911 called.
Upshur County Sherriff’s Office, EMS and area fire departments arrived to the scene and provided medical care to Haymond. Haymond unfortunately succumbed to the injuries sustained during the incident.
