Bridgeport High Alum's Salem Restaurant Set to Close

By Jeff Toquinto on June 24, 2025

A Bridgeport High School alum and area businessman whose commercial portfolio features several restaurants announced via social media that one of the eateries will soon be closing.

According to a Facebook post, the Salem location of East of Chicago Pizza will be shutting its doors soon. The final day of business is this coming Saturday, June 28.

Bridgeport High School Alum Jeffrey Chalfant, one of the area’s most successful young entrepreneurs, owns the location. It was formerly Domino’s before he acquired the property.

“While this wasn’t an easy choice, we’re closing this chapter with deep gratitude and a renewed focus. What was planned to be our fourth location will now become our third — and strongest yet — as we continue building for the future. Stay tuned for more details on what’s in the works,” the post said.

This location opened in July 0f 2023. He took over the site at 66 Valley Street and completely renovated the 1,200 square foot building.

Chalfant’s other East of Chicago sites remain open. Among those still doing business is his site, which includes a still relatively new dining area, on Main Street in Bridgeport across from the Benedum Civic Center.

The post also had kind words for the Salem community.

“Your support over the past two years has meant more than words can express. From quick lunches to pizza nights with family, you’ve made this place special — and we are so thankful,” the post stated.

There was good news in the post as well. Chalfant, who owns Vincent Lumber and South Pike Storage among others in his portfolio, hinted that something new should be coming to the site.

“Though East of Chicago won’t continue here, something new is bound to come to 66 Valley Street. We own the building, and with two interested parties, we’re excited to see this space evolve and continue to serve the community in a meaningful way,” the post states.
