City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on July 04, 2021 from City Faces

This week's Bridgeport City Face can be seen at Bridgeport Municipal Building or around town. Today we feature City Engineer Beth Dawkins Fox.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
I was born and raised in Bridgeport. I lived in Parkersburg for a few years after graduation, but moved back to Bridgeport in 2000.  I've lived a total of 43 years in my hometown.

Tell me about your family.  I have two sons… Eli is 19 and Gage is 7…  and I’m blessed with brothers, parents, a niece and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents, who all remain close.

What about pets?  Ozzie, our 4-year old rescue dog and Shelby, our 6-year old kitty.

Where do you work and what do you do there?  I am the City Engineer for Bridgeport.  I oversee the operations of the city wastewater treatment plant; sewer, water, & storm systems, streets, sidewalks, and building construction.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times? I love the outdoors--gardening, yardwork, hunting, fishing, hiking, and anything involving water.
My favorite past times were playing outside with the neighborhood kids - all day until the street lights came on. Also, our family summer vacations to Cape Hatteras.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?   My place of work, City Hall - where I am surrounded by great people, great friends, and dedicated coworkers all day every day.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?   Undoubtedly, the support system within. I have experienced the unparalleled love from this community as a child, as an adult, as a parent, and as a public servant.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport?  The Fireman’s Fair when it was behind Station 51.

What is your favorite spot outside of Bridgeport?  Private beaches or mountain cabins… either provide peace and tranquility needed for my mind and soul.

What are some of your favorite things?  Coffee with friends, online shopping, Netflix, a good crossword puzzle, and most definitely, being a Mom.

Food/restaurant?  Our hometown Italian Restaurants… Twin Oaks and Oliverio’s.

Favorite color?   Blue

Music genre/artist?  Zac Brown Band

Favorite holiday?  Thanksgiving

TV show/movie?  The Hunt for Red October is my all-time favorite movie.  Yellowstone has captured the number one spot for series.

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…    I was a very passionate tomboy as a kid - playing t-ball, minor league, little league…. Until I got hit by a pitch from Bruce Francis.  It was then that I traded in my bat for a baton and never looked back.
