Healthy Faces: Meet Allison Clem

By Julie Perine on February 06, 2021 from Healthy Faces

"Healthy Bridgeport" is comprised of health-concious individuals; the same group that served as the steering committee for Team
Bridgeport in The Health Games, sponsored by Healthy Harrison.

After winning the competition between cities, Healthy Bridgeport is off and running with a number of initiatives, all intended to make residents healthier. To date, a free health app has been launched, The Biggest Loser and 10% Takedown weight loss competitions are underway and a 5K and Wellness Festival are in the works.

Learn more about Healthy Bridgeport and all of its programs HERE at the Healthy Bridgeport Web site. Download the free Healthy Bridgeport app at The App Store. Interact by tracking your goal progress and you might just win some fitness-related prizes.

Each Saturday, Healthy Bridgeport features a "Healthy Face." Today, we shine the spotlight on Allison Clem. Allison is the owner of Riversong Spa.  She is a master holistic esthetician and also completed her Registered Yoga Teacher 200+ hour training.  She is the lead esthetician, and also teaches many hot vinyasa flow and restorative yoga classes.  She is passionate about organic living, wellness, essential oils, and yoga. She is currently pursuing her RYT 500 through the school of Yoga Medicine. Allison strives to be of service to the community by helping people understand the healing nature of their own bodies, and how lifestyle choices can impact overall health. She enjoys freelance makeup artistry, especially for weddings, and sharing her love of essential oils by teaching workshops and classes.

1.What’s your favorite motivational self-help book?

My favorite book for personal growth is "The Power" by Rhonda Byrne.
2.  What is your favorite healthy meal?

I love health food!  One of my favorite meals is a huge salmon salad with lots of organic greens & veggies.  I love to add different flavors like pickled baby corn, olives, peppers, and then crunchy toppings like sunflower seeds.  The bigger, the better!

3. What is your favorite workout?

I am a huge fan of hot vinyasa yoga for low-impact movement that also builds strength, increases circulation/lymphatic flow, and improves range of motion.

4. How do you fit health and wellness into your busy lifestyle?

I’m really fortunate that I have built health and wellness both into my personal and professional life.  I knew that I needed to change the pace of my days, and knew that I was called to help people feel better.  I created Riversong Spa for other people to have access to healthy lifestyle options, services, & products - and I also need those things in my life and my neighborhood for myself and my family.

5.What is your favorite motivational quote?

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear & timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”  2 Timothy 1:7

6. Tell us about your health journey and how it started?

My health journey started after I had children and needed to start making some healthy lifestyle & nutrition changes to lose “baby weight.” But I also started yoga when my kids were babies because I had pregnancy-induced hypertension and knew I needed to manage stress better. These healthy lifestyle changes led to a career change as well.

7. What are some easy habits you recommend to someone just beginning their health journey?

The little things are the big things. It’s good to imagine the lifestyle and health that you want and keep making small changes that reflect the life and health you desire.  The small changes multiply, and all of the sudden, you have new routines and rituals that give your life a joyful pace and meaning.
