By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 07, 2025
FROM THE BRIDGEPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT
Pedestrian Safety Reminder
We want to remind everyone of West Virginia State Law regarding pedestrians and crosswalks:
- Pedestrians in crosswalks have the right of way. Under WV Code §17C-10-2, drivers must yield to pedestrians crossing within marked crosswalks or at intersections without traffic signals.
- Under WV Code §17C-10-3, pedestrians are required to use crosswalks at intersections where they are provided.
- Under WV Code §17C-10-4, drivers must exercise due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians, giving warning when necessary, and using extra caution around children or individuals with disabilities.
Being courteous and patient not only keeps our streets safe—it shows respect for your neighbors.
Whether you’re behind the wheel or crossing the street, let’s all do our part to keep Bridgeport safe and welcoming. A simple moment of patience can prevent accidents and protect lives.
