UPDATE: Although the date of the Indians Youth Football Camp is still this Saturday, June 22, the time has been changed due to the heat wave that has impacted the area. According to Travis Jones, registration for the camp will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the camp will run from 8 a.m. until noon. The students will be served breakfast instead of lunch.
ORIGINAL: For those looking for something to do with their children as summer gets into full swing, an annual event is back that may help on that front. The 2024 Indians Football Youth Camp will return to Wayne Jamison Field later this month.
According to Travis Jones, the “Voice of the Indians” who helps run multiple events for the program, the camp will be held June 22. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the camp running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As always, there will be lunch provided as part of the $40 fee.
“It should be another fun camp and we’re looking for a strong turnout,” said Jones.
There will be group and individual attention as needed. The camp will focus on the fundamentals, and there will also be plenty of fun. Although it is open to anyone beyond Bridgeport, one of the key components of the camp is to let the kids meet and work with the current Bridgeport High School coaching staff and current players.
Another bonus of the camp is also expected to be in place this year. Jones said he anticipates several former Bridgeport football players to help during the camp.
Jones said all participants will get a t-shirt.
“The camp is open for the Mighty Mites level up to the Midget level of Bridgeport Youth football for those wanting to know what the age group is,” said Jones.
Jones said there were nearly 100 participants last year with most of them being from the Bridgeport feeder system, but a handful did show up from other areas and are welcome. He said he anticipates the same number this year.
