As I was scrolling and thinking about something to write about, I was hit by some hard news. A high school classmate who I have seen many times in recent years, died suddenly. She had just gotten remarried and was starting a new life chapter.
So, my focus for today’s blog is something we’ve been told a million times, and that is that time flies and life is unpredictable. We are never promised tomorrow.
Here in North Central West Virginia, we’ve had a couple of low-key weeks following a couple of fast-paced hustle and bustle ones. For many, the Christmas holiday brought busy schedules, lots of seasonal chores, travel, and time with family and friends. Then, typically comes a little letdown period. All the excitement ends, our people return home, and we’re suddenly left with quiet and perhaps a little extra time on our hands.
Then came a massive snow; a weather event met with mixed feelings. Some - including most of the kids – have been thrilled with snowman-making, sledding and, of course, “The Snow Angel Challenge.” If your kids are still in this era, try to embrace it. Those puddles of melted snow on your floor and the constant cycle on the dryer to warm up those snow clothes are worth the memories.
Time flies.
During this time of year, we tend to want to curl up in a blanket, eat some comfort food and read a good book or binge watch a Netflix series.I love it all as much as anyone! After a busy season, some of that is good for us. But maybe sometimes we should turn off the TV and give each other our undivided attention and talk, play a game or even turn on some music and dance.
Life is unpredictable. We never know what’s going to happen tomorrow.
The recent weather has grounded many who can’t get out or travel in the cold temperatures and road conditions. The situation has shown us the absolute good in some people. I’ve seen both kids and adults shoveling folks’ driveways and sidewalks. I’ve learned of people stopping to check on neighbors and shut-ins, delivering groceries or ready-made meals. I applaud those folks who are making the most of their time and making life a little easier for others and perhaps most importantly bringing a smile to their faces. It’s just nice to know that someone cares.
You never know what impact that may have; impact to last a lifetime.

We never know what will happen tomorrow.
