An afternoon wreck along State Route 131 – Benedum Drive – resulted in one fatality, Bridgeport Fire Chief Greg Pigg confirmed.
Although many details were not available, the call came into the Harrison County 911 Media Log at 3:53 p.m. It was for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.
The area of the accident on Benedum Drive was close the intersection of Freed Drive. The severity of the accident forced the road to be temporarily closed. It has since reopened.
Lt. Ben Tacy of the Bridgeport Fire Department said the individual who passed was extricated from the vehicle. Tacy said the fatality was a male.
The transports to United Hospital Center were done by Anmoore EMS and the Harrison County EMS. Tacy said the other individual was stable with injuries that “did not appear to be life-threatening.”
Roadway closure was necessitated by the wreck. One vehicle ended up off the roadway.
The Bridgeport Police Department also assisted on the scene. They were joined by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia Medical Examiner.
