One Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting in Tunnelton

FROM THE WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE
On Friday, July 10, 2026, at approximately 9:35 a.m., West Virginia State Police Troopers responded to S. Preston Highway, Tunnelton, WV, following a report of threats involving a weapon.
Upon arrival, responding Troopers were advised that the suspect, Joshua Tyler Roberts, 33, of Tunnelton, WV, had threatened a neighbor with a machete before returning to the residence.
Troopers located the suspect seated inside a Chevrolet van while armed with a firearm. The suspect refused repeated verbal commands issued by the Troopers. During the encounter, the suspect raised the firearm toward the responding Troopers, at which time both Troopers discharged their service weapons, in an attempt to stop the immediate threat to their lives.
The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No law enforcement officers or other individuals were injured during the incident.
The suspect's next of kin has been notified.
The investigation remains ongoing.
