Taylor Randolph, Bridgeport Volleyball Passing Early Chemistry Tests

It’s only the first week of practice, but the anticipation is already building for Bridgeport senior volleyball player Taylor Randolph.
“I’m super excited for this year,” Randolph said. “I feel like our skills all mesh together. We can have super good passes or super good sets or super good swings, but what matters in the end is that we all communicate well with each other. I think that’s our biggest strength.”
That communication also extends off the court.
“Our chemistry is so good,” Randolph said. “We are a big family. For away tournaments, we usually do Bible studies. I feel like that’s the most important thing you need on a team is having that relationship with Christ amongst us all. That really built our chemistry off the court, which is only going to help you on the court.”
Randolph and Kennedy Wolfe, who will also be profiled in the coming days, have taken on the leadership load as the only seniors.
“They’re both great kids, but they’re very different in their personalities,” Bridgeport coach Allie Burton said. “I think going forward throughout the season, that will be a good thing. We’ve got some things to learn as a whole, but once they get into their senior year, they feel a different kind of weight.”
“We’re opposite in a lot of things, but we’re also super similar. We both have played a lot of other sports and I feel like we’ve been through a lot together,” Randolph said. “Especially last year, with all of the injuries we had, it gave us an example of how to be leaders. We really had to step up. One week, we lost Salam (Rajjoub) and then the next, we lost another outside hitter in Rowyn (Harris), which was really difficult.
“Allie talked to us and the main word last year was ‘Adversity’ and how to work through it. I feel like Kennedy and I really used that as inspiration,” Randolph said.
Randolph and Wolfe’s positions also complement each other well.
“We have Taylor’s leadership up front,” Burton said. “Even this summer, she played a little back row. It definitely helps that, more than likely, at least one of (her and Wolfe) is always out there. That makes a difference.”
They are showing the way to a hungry group of younger players.
“I feel like all of the juniors have really showed up and most of our sophomores as well,” Randolph said. “I couldn’t really name names because I feel like everyone has stepped up and put in the work this summer and taken the time to get better for this team.”
As always, Bridgeport will face a daunting schedule, beginning with a trip to Oak Glen on August 22.
“We get to play against a lot of other teams that may be a little better or the same level as us,” Randolph said. “The more time that we get to play, the more aggressive we feel. We want it more the more that we play.”
