BHS Alum Sponsors First Ever Giving for Gordon to Honor Pet and Help Local Animals

By Trina Runner on June 19, 2020

After nearly ten years of being part of Megan Griffith’s family, her dog, Gordon, passed away last month due to complications from a stroke.

Gordon had made a name for himself by serving as a certified service dog who regularly visited hospitals, nursing homes and schools to offer support to those experiencing mental or physical difficulties. Because he spent his life making others happy, Griffith would like his legacy to live on through an annual Giving for Gordon event that will benefit other animals at the Harrison County Humane Society.

“Gordon was a rescue dog and was such an important part of our family,” said Griffith, who graduated in 2013. “Once he was certified as a service dog, I had the opportunity to see how he could make a difference in the lives of others. I want to continue serving our community through other pets available at the Harrison County Humane Society.”

On Saturday, June 20, Giving for Gordon will take place in the Johnson Elementary parking lot from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Those wishing to donate items can participate in the contactless drive-by drop-off during those times. There will also be a box located at the Benedum Civic Center through June 30 for collections.

Items being collected include Purina Puppy Chow, Purina Kitten Chow, kitty litter, leashes, collars, toys for cats and dogs, treats, towels, blankets, paper towels, bleach, laundry detergent, and cleaning supplies.

For those unable to attend to First Annual Giving for Gordon, there is a Pay Pal link listed under his name at www.hschwv.org. that will also be available through June 30.

“Because Gordon is no longer here to serve the community he loved, this event will give others the opportunity to keep his legacy alive and help other shelter animals in our local community,” said Griffith.
