BHS Graduates Rachel Morgan, Emma Dotson Part of Prestigious Group Honored by State 4-H Program

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 11, 2021

Two Bridgeport graduates are among Harrison County’s newest West Virginia 4-H All Stars. Alumna Rachel Morgan and Emma Dotson were joined by fellow member Emma Samples and 4-H Leaders Bridgitte Robey and Kimberly Samples.

These Leaders and Members have over 60-pous years of combined service in the county 4-H program. Becoming a West Virginia All Star is the highest honor and recognition in the 4-H program.

The following are descriptions of the service of both provided by the WVU Harrison County Extension Service; first Rachel Morgan:

“By the time she was old enough to be a 4-Her, Rachel had already attended Alpha I for many summers when her parents served as counselors. So, when the time came, Rachel was more than excited to officially be a part of 4-H, not to mention attend Harrison County 4-H camp on her own...she has been a leader in 4-H ever since. Rachel has served for 6 years as the president of the Bridgeport 4-H club where she leads meetings, directs decision-making, helps select and host guest speakers, and encourages other members to lead and be heard. She has never missed county 4-H camp and usually attends Alpha state camp. She regularly volunteers in 4-H service projects on both the county and local club levels. Rachel has served on the teen committee that plans state 4-H camps, and she earned her charting pin during virtual county camp in 2020. Rachel plans to attend WVU in the fall and continue her involvement with 4-H.”

Biography on Emma Dotson:

This 4-H’er has been a leader in her 4-H Club serving in the offices of secretary and reporter in the past4 years, and also with her leadership/encouragement of other club members. She regularly leads/participates in service projects at the club/county levels. She has designed advertising/marketing materials to help make such projects a success. When the world went on lockdown due to Covid and her 4-H club was figuring out how to go on, she proactively helped plan online meetings. She created an online "Kahoot" quiz to engage the club members in a group Zoom activity. Her trivia quiz was a big hit! Throughout the year, she continued to plan online activities to help the meetings be fun and meaningful. She set the pace, and since, other club members also stepped up to lead virtual activities She plans to attend WVU in the fall and continue her involvement in 4-H.

The 4-H All Star organization was formed in 1919 to recognize those 4-Her's who give outstanding and dedicated service to others. Today, the 4-H All Star program is an honorary organization for veteran 4-H members and leaders who have an impressive record of achievement and service.
