Cultural Foundation Brings International Five Sax Program to Robinson Grand

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on October 06, 2018

On Sunday, Oct. 14 the Cultural Foundation brings to the Robinson Grand stage the dynamic, creatively choreographed international musical presentation known as FIVE SAX.  This modern-style saxophone quintet will perform a repertoire rooted in classical music, venturing into American jazz, South American Latin styles and European folk music.  The lighting and technical capacity of the recently reopened Robinson Grand are showcased in this beautiful, energetic show. The Cultural Foundation is responding to the many local requests for an exceptional brass concert.

You are invited to experience an unforgettable musical journey. The multi-continental trip begins in the legendary capital of music: Vienna, with a look back at some timeless classics of the past. Then, jump on a train to explore the rich ethnic musical styles of Spain, Italy, Hungary and the Balkans. From there, hop on a flight to Rio de Janeiro to experience the seductive rhythms of Brazilian Bossa Nova, the passion of Argentine Tango and a visit to the mythic Columbian town of Macondo. The last stop of this voyage is in sunny Los Angeles to rediscover some of the most famous Hollywood hits.

On Monday morning October 15 area students are invited to attend a special performance by FIVE SAX, whose members are constantly energized by the enthusiasm of young people.  Their student program, Five Sax @ the Movies travels through music of classic films and includes familiar theme songs from such greats as James Bond, Titanic, Jurassic Park and more, as well as theme from Looney Tunes and Mario Brothers Game.

Support for this music is provided by EQT and the Barbara B. Highland Fund for the Performing Arts.

Tickets are available at https://tickets.therobinsongrand.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the Robinson Grand Box office.  Telephone the Box Office at 304-624-1500, Extension 4 for more information.
