City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on August 25, 2019 from City Faces

She's been splashing around in Bridgeport waters since she was little and went on to become a decorated swimmer for Bridgeport High School. She is an avid WVU fan and adores being a mommy. Meet this week's City Face, Ashley Wilson McClain.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
I am a lifelong resident.  I had a brief stint in Cedar Rapids, Iowa during my undergraduate years swimming on scholarship for the Hawkeyes @ University of Iowa.  A shoulder injury brought me back home to the hills where I belong.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.
I've been married for 9 years to Jeremy, who works as a highway engineer for the DOH.  We actually met while I was working out at the Clarksburg YMCA.   We have one son, Lincoln, who just turned 4 in August.  He is both excited and a little nervous to be starting preschool at BUMC this fall.  We also have a son on the way, due in January.  Lincoln will be the best big brother. We go to the Bridgeport United Methodist Church.  My parents, Scott and Patty Wilson, are also long time Bridgeport residents. My mama is my best friend.  I also have an older sister, Wendy, who lives with her family on a farm in New Hampshire.
What about pets?
We have two miniature schnauzer dogs, Sharpie and Stabler;  two cats, Sofee and Shady (the latter I found and rescued); two hermit crabs (Diggle and Jack and the Beanstalk) Lincoln named the crabs.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I work at United Hospital Center and I am a physical therapist on 5N, United Transitional Care Center (UTCC).  UTCC is a skilled nursing/ rehab facility for patients who have had an acute hospitalization and need a little rehab prior to returning home.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I enjoy spending time with my family. I love going for walks/runs with Lincoln as well as going to parks and the pool with him.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?  That is a tough one… We love the city park and the city pool. I've been a pool rat for years and I think Lincoln may follow suit.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
It is such a great community with lots of opportunity and involvement.  The people are very supportive and loving.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport …
As a child, I used to love the Fireman's Fair.  Now as an adult, we enjoy Light up Night at Christmas and the Family Day in the summer.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
I would say Morgantown. I swam every day there from middle school through high school at the Natatorium on an age group team affiliated with WVU. I graduated from PT school at WVU. I love the game day atmosphere.  We took Lincoln to his first WVU football game last year and it was so much fun seeing it through his eyes. I also enjoy going to the Wow Factory, Pizza Al's and Peace Love and Little Donuts in Morgantown.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
Disney World and Myrtle Beach

What are some of your favorite things? Food/restaurant?
I pretty much like any food.  My favorites are chicken, fruit, yogurt, broccoli, and ice cream. We love Texas Roadhouse and we also go to IHOP a lot for family night. The kids eat free and do a craft every Tuesday.  The staff at IHOP is great.

Favorite color?
Rose gold

Music genre/artist?
Christian / Casting crowns

What is your best childhood memory?
I've been blessed with so many wonderful memories - especially in swimming. My best probably would be in high school swimming winning the 100 free at states as a freshman against three awesome senior swimmers who were/are also friends. We all swam on different teams.  That is probably tied with the memory of swimming my senior year. Our girls team won our 4th consecutive high school state title after being undefeated for four entire seasons (44 and 0).

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
We had IVF at Shady Grove to have Lincoln and never thought we would get pregnant naturally. God had different plans. We are due January 2020.
