City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on September 15, 2019 from City Faces

This week's City Face loves exploring state parks and waterfalls. She is an elementary teacher at Johnson Elementary. Meet Kim McCord.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.

I have always lived in Harrison County, but moved to Bridgeport after getting married.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.
I have been married to Jay McCord for 32 years. We have one son and daughter-in-love. Zach and his wife Valarie McCord also live in Bridgeport.

What about pets?
My only pet is a calico cat named Callie. She is a rescue.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I am a teacher for Harrison County Board of Education. I currently teach fourth grade math and science and Johnson Elementary.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
My husband and I like exploring West Virginia parks and waterfalls. I am a Hallmark movie girl. I love to watch a good movie.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
My favorite Bridgeport spot is Hinkle and Deegan Lakes. I love my evening walks looking over the water.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
The best thing about living in Bridgeport is the sense of community. You can see it and feel it from sporting events to the community activities.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
My favorite Bridgeport memories include Light Up Night. I remember a couple of my first years there, the elementary students were singing carols and the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen started drifting to the ground. It was beautiful!

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
That would be any peaceful area where I can take a hike and view waterfalls. We like Beartown and Falls of Hills Creek.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
My favorite spot outside of West Virginia is Malibu Young Life Camp in British Columbia, Canada. The snow-capped mountains literally shoot up out of the ocean waters. My second favorite place is Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

What are some of your favorite things? Food/restaurant? Favorite color? Music genre/artist?
My favorite color is teal. My favorite foods are Italian and Mexican. I like things a little spicy. Muriale’s and Rucker Johns are my favorite restaurants. Rucker Johns has the best honey mustard hot bacon salad dressing.

What is your best childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is spending time every weekend with my grandparents - Virginia and Doc Dawson. They were the best!

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…

I like to travel and experience new places. A couple of my favorite destinations have been exploring Hawaii, ziplining in the Dominican Republic and Jackson Hole, Wyoming where we went on a 100-mile snowmobile ride through Yellowstone.
