City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on September 06, 2020 from City Faces

Meet this week's City Face, Bridgeport businessman and president of the Associated Businesses of Bridgeport, Doug Marquette.

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.

I’ve had an insurance office here since 2005 and I’ve lived here since 2008. Initially, I was drawn to Bridgeport as a great place to have a business, that is still true, but I love the sense of community.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.

I’m married to Jackie Shipman, I have two grown boys from a previous marriage, David, is a manager at a VA in Durham, NC and Paul lives and works in Winchester, VA. My stepdaughter is Victoria Cespedes, she is a senior biology major at Emory University.

What about pets?

PJ, Prince Joffrey, is a Maltese, and rules our house.

Where do you work and what do you do there?

I own and operate Marquette Insurance Agency with offices  in Bridgeport and Philippi

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?

I like active things, I play tennis, ski, rollerblade, workout some.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?

I enjoy football on a Friday night at Wayne Jamison Field and I love being on Main Street for Light Up Night.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?

I love the sense of community, I love that Bridgeport is made up of hard working people that just want what is best for their family. It is a great place to work, live, and raise a family.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...

It would be every Light Up Night, but I remember the first one in 2005, you could tell immediately it was going to be something special.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?

I’ve lived in WV since 1993 and I’ve traveled all over the state and I’m blessed to have friends in many places in the state. If you haven’t done the Upper Gauley and are still in good health and like a little adventure, you’ve got to do it.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?

My grand daughters, Genevieve and Isla, are in the Winchester, VA area so that is my favorite palce in the world. I love being their Pap.

What are some of your favorite things?

I’m not a things or toys kind of person, people are important to me so family and friends are my most cherished thing.

Food/restaurant?

I love food, just look at me. Any of the T&L Hotdog stores, Winnie’s right next door to my Bridgeport office, or if I’m looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, The Sweet Spot in Shinnston or Clarksburg. Whan I’m in Philippi I love eating at Lil Moes.

Favorite color?

Yellow or Orange

Music genre/artist?

Rock/Metal and some country.

What is your best childhood memory?

I enjoyed competing in sports as a kid and vacations with my family.
Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…

I used to be a ski instructor, I worked at a place close to Hagerstown, Md, Whitetail Resort. Most recently I was a Mountain Guide at Snowshoe up until a couple years ago.
