City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on October 18, 2020 from City Faces

This week's City Face is Bridgeport enthusiast and my little sister, Janet Hathaway! Meet her here:

How long have you lived here in Bridgeport?
I have lived in Bridgeport since I was 4 years old with the exception of moving to Tennessee for one year in 1989. I moved to Bridgeport with my mom and dad, Bill and Shirley Hadorn and my sister, Julie Perine.  Our family is originally from Wheeling, WV.  We moved here because my dad was transferred here with Weimer Packing Company.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.
I have been married to Jeff Hathaway for 37 years with three children, B.R. Hathaway, Natalie Hathaway and Brett Hathaway.  B.R. is married to Jenn Parker Hathaway and they have two beautiful daughters, Everly and Sloane.

What about pets?
We have had our share of cats and dogs, but currently only have an outdoor pond with 7 large goldfish and an occasional frog.

Where do you work and what do you do there?
I work at Bridgeport Middle School and have been here for 14 years.  I am the financial secretary.

What are you hobbies/favorite past times?
I enjoy time with family.  I love spending time with my parents, husband and kids, and grand daughters, Everly (who is 3) and Sloane (who is 1).  Being a Grandma (or Moni as they call me!) is so much fun! My daughter Natalie is the Varsity Cheer coach for BHS and I am her assistant, which is also fun!  I also enjoy attending football games that my son Brett coaches at South Harrison High school and my husband Jeff coaches the freshman at BHS. I also enjoy gardening and canning and relaxing in the hot tub.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
Honestly, probably my back yard!  We are fortunate to have a lot of undeveloped land behind our house and have all kinds of wild life living out there or passing through.  It’s nice to sit out there and watch anything from deer to hawks to squirrels or groundhogs.  My granddaughters love to play out there also.  We go exploring and they love to look and dig for “treasures.”

What do you like about Bridgeport….why is this a good place to live?
Bridgeport is a great place to raise a family!  I love the sense of community pride that exudes in all things from sports activities to holiday cheer!  I love the small town feel of our community with all the conveniences of a larger town.

One-or more-of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport
Great memories of Bridgeport include watching my boys play football, baseball and basketball and my daughter cheer, family celebrations and the birth of my granddaughters.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Our family loves to rent cabins for the weekend in various areas of our beautiful state.   Favorite rental spots include Bowden, Canaan and Snowshoe.

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
I love to go to any beach and enjoy the serenity of watching the waves as well as walking on the beach and collecting shells.  I really want to visit Alaska sometime in the near future!

What are some of your favorite things?
Family and friends, laughter and all of God’s blessings!

Food/restaurant?
Cheese is my weekness!   There are too many good restaurants around here to pick just one but I love Mexican and Italian!

Favorite color?
Red

Music genre/artist?
I listen to mostly the current country music.  Two of my favorites are Toby Keith and Blake Shelton

What is your best childhood memory?
Gosh, I had the greatest childhood.  Hard to pick my best!  Some great memories include growing up in the best neighborhood and always having kids hang out at our house, playing outside till dark, walking to the Bridgeport Pool in the summer every day.  I loved going to the Fireman’s Fair every summer!

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add
Our family celebrates Groundhog’s day, initiated by our mom and dad, Bill and Shirley Hadorn.  This celebration has grown throughout the years into a huge party complete with games, food and prizes!
