City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on March 20, 2022 from City Faces

This week's Bridgeport City Face is Rochelle Chalmers. Learn about her, her family and her sweet livelihood here:

Tell us about you family ... My husband Cory and I have two-year-old Julian and five-year-old Elliana, who are always on the move! We also live with our three dogs Mia, Foster and Lucy and a black cat named Banksy.

Where do you work and what do you do there?

Cory and I are the owners of the Drifter Doughnuts foodtruck, and we manage everything from the social media to the food itself! We love serving our friends and neighbors right here in our own city.

Tell us how you and your husband met...
I met Cory through a mutual friend at a game of trivia! Both of our friend groups used to play at Brickside all the time, so we already had a common interest when we started talking.

Why do you like it here?
We love the convenience of living near everything we need and also the many family-oriented activities the city has to offer.

What's your favorite event here in our city?
The Summer Kick-Off on Main Street has such a fun, small-town feel and our kids love the giant sandbox installment!

What about a spot that you frequent?
We are very familiar with all the local playgrounds and probably visit Hinkle and Deegan Lakes most often.

What are some of your favorite pasttimes and hobbies?
I love home improvement projects and cooking. It sounds so domestic but I really enjoy playing around with a space and seeing how changeable it can be. Cooking has the same sense of abandon that I love. You can make a million different things with the same five ingredients!

Do you have any goals - personal or professional - either shortterm or longterm?
Someday, I would love to open a storefront for our doughnut business here in Bridgeport. Perhaps even open a second food truck.
Tell us about one of your favorite Bridgeport memories.

Any of the events on Main Street hold a special place in my heart, but I’ll never forget watching our daughter dancing in a sea of bubbles while Christmas music played in the background during this year’s Light Up Night.

What are your favorite area foods/restaurants?
We love supporting all of the other local food trucks! You just can’t beat locally-made food that you can pick up just as easily as a drive through window. Our favorite brick and mortar restaurant is probably Oliverio’s.

What tunes are on your playlist?
At the moment, the whole family is jamming out to the Sing 2 soundtrack. But I personally love 2000’s throwback jams like most millennials.

What about favorite movies or TV shows?
I’m a sucker for a chick flick! Titanic is my all-time favorite movie, and Cory and I never get tired of The Office reruns.

Are you streaming anything now or have recently that you recommend?
Inventing Anna on Netflix was a total binge-watch. We’re looking for our next great show now.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
There are so many places I’d like to see in Europe but if I could return to a place, it would be Punta Cana where we honeymooned.

What is one or more of your past favorite vacations?
We love camping at our site at Big Bear in Preston County! It is our kids’ favorite place in the world and we have friends and family who go there as well. It’s beautiful country and always a great time.

What is an interesting tidbit about you?
I have a weird, totally useless talent for recognizing celebrity voices. It gets super annoying when I’m watching animated movies with my kids.
