Shinn's Run CEOS Creates Vintage-Inspired Ornaments for Robinson Grand Christmas Tree

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 20, 2019

SUBMITTED TO  CONNECT-BRIDGEPORT:

The Shinn’s Run Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS) club has been in the Christmas spirit since Independence Day, thanks in part to a community service project that brought holiday décor to the Robinson Grand Theater.

After having a Christmas in July-themed meeting, the Bridgeport-based club immediately set out to create ornaments for a Christmas tree set up in the lobby of the Robinson Grand Theater. The tree features ornaments bearing photographs from days gone by at the vintage venue.

Shinn’s Run CEOS president Pat Rummel said many of the photos featured in the ornaments were pulled from the Robinson Grand’s Facebook page, while others came from the theater’s historical archives. The photos showcase everything from old movie tickets to performances to the current theater staff.

“We have spent so much time here as (volunteer) ushers that we wanted to do something like this,” Rummel said. “Some of our ladies had made ornaments with photos in the past, so that was what pushed us in this direction.”

The tree also features several crocheted snowflake and angel ornaments that were provided by Bridgeport Originals CEOS member Margarett Fisher. Strings of lights and other garland complete the festive look of the tree that greets visitors to the theater.

The Shinn’s Run CEOS club meets at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at Maplewood in Bridgeport. For information on joining that club or any of the 17 clubs scattered throughout Harrison County, contact the West Virginia University Extension Office at 304-624-8650.
