Bridgeport among 11 Locations in Harrison County Set to Participate in Naloxone Save a Life Day

On September 26, 2024, all the states East of the Mississippi River (and a few beyond) are powering up the largest day of naloxone distribution to date. More than 300 counties from 30 states have signed up, and Harrison County is among them.
The naloxone is free.
According to information provided by Tim Curry, Bridgeport’s Director of Emergency Management, Bridgeport will be handling the site set up at United Hospital Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day is a national effort to raise awareness into the opioid crisis.
There are 11 sites set up throughout Harrison County. Walgreen’s Pharmacy in Bridgeport, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is another location.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist. This means that it attaches to opioid receptors and reverses and blocks the effects of other opioids. Naloxone can quickly restore normal breathing to a person if their breathing has slowed or stopped because of an opioid overdose.
