FROM THE FBI NATIONAL PRESS OFFICE

FBI Director Christopher Wray has named Michael D. DeLeon as assistant director of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. Located in West Virginia, the CJIS Division provides state-of-the-art tools and services to law enforcement, national security and intelligence community partners, and the general public.

Mr. DeLeon began his FBI career in 1999 as a special agent assigned to the Fort Myers Resident Agency of the Tampa Field Office in Florida, where he worked criminal, counterterrorism, and counterintelligence matters. After 9/11, he was the Joint Terrorism Task Force coordinator for the Fort Myers office.

Throughout his FBI career, Mr. DeLeon has focused on counterintelligence and espionage investigative matters and has held a number of related leadership positions. In 2012, he served as a unit chief in the Espionage Section of the Counterintelligence Division at FBI Headquarters. He also led the Greensboro Resident Agency of the Charlotte Field Office in North Carolina from 2007-2012, before being named the assistant special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office’s Counterintelligence Branch.

Mr. DeLeon served as a section chief in the Counterintelligence Division prior to serving as the chief of the Counter Espionage Group at the CIA from 2014 to March 2016.

Mr. DeLeon has served as the special agent in charge of the Phoenix Field Office since March 2016.

Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. DeLeon served with the Delaware State Police from 1987 to 1999.
