Link Released; Your Name Suggestions for Indoor Sports & Rec Complex are Welcome

By Julie Perine on November 17, 2019

Years of research and planning have gone into the Indoor Sports & Recreation Complex, for which construction has finally begun. Bridgeport City Council wants to take that same careful consideration and planning into naming the facility.

Get your thinking caps on. You get to help.

"We truly want this to be a community project and one that all residents will love!" said Community Development Director Andrea Kerr.
"Please consider including the naming survey link on all your social media accounts. The more feedback, the better."

The surveymonkey survey where name suggestions can be made can be visited HERE.

The facility is to include two indoor pools, basketball and volleyball courts, full-service fitness and weight room, indoor track and many other amenities, including conference areas and a cafe. Take a virtual tour of the proposed complex below.

Kerr is working with Sports Facilities Management on the survey which will be distributed via local media, the city’s Web site and included in the water bills of city customers.

Name suggestions will be compilated and Kerr’s top picks will be shared with Council. The survey does not mean that one of the suggestions will definitely be adopted as the facility’s name, but all submissions will be considered.

Though the facility is referred to as the Indoor Sports & Recreation Complex, city officials are looking for a catchier name, something unique and perhaps even a name that could be shortened with a clever acronym.

Names reflecting the immediate community are welcome, but the city is also interested in those which will have a widespread appeal as the facility will be utilized by teams and groups from throughout the state and region.

Perhaps someone’s name suggestion has a good story behind it that may ultimately be shared with the public, Kerr said.

Kerr and Council members also talked briefly about corporate sponsorships for the complex. More about that opportunity will be shared after details are ironed out.
