A new Bridgeport High School fundraiser has been launched and that means you may find “Smiley” the goat grazing in your lawn.
The setup is appropriate for the “Greatest of All Time” football team which is looking to raise thousands of dollars leading up to and throughout the 2023 season.
Here’s how it works: If you discover Smiley and his accompanying athlete cut-out in your yard, snap a photo of yourself in the cut-out and tag the Facebook Group, “GOATed by BHS Football 2023.” Then, you can donate $25 – or the amount of your choice - to have the setup removed. An additional donation of $25 enables you to send the fundraiser on to someone else and $100 will keep Smiley from appearing in your yard again this season.
The setup includes the football player, crate (to stand on behind the cutout), Smiley, box for Smiley and the sign. Also included is a thank you/payment instruction bag. Donations can be made by check, cash or Venmo. Smiley will only spend about 24 hours at each residence.
The BHS football moms will be running the fundraiser. It will take a lot of legwork, but they are confident it will be well received and beneficial for the team. Heading up operations is Jenny McGinnis Davis, who confirmed that the goat is a nod to former BHS Football Coach Wayne “Smiley” Jamison.
“I asked the coaches and players to pick out a name for the goat and they selected Smiley,” she said.
The idea for the fundraiser came from the 2023 BHS Prom Potty fundraiser. Football team parents brainstormed and came up with the "GOAT" idea. Austin Springer built the red box and the other materials were ordered.
To request Smiley’s appearance in a lawn of your choice, message the Facebook group, “GOATed by BHS Football 2023."
