Tania Grubbs Quartet Coming to The Listening Room in Weston for 'A Cool Yule'

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 25, 2024

Renowned jazz club singer and recording artist, Tania Grubbs, is set to return to the area next month for "A Cool Yule," a special matinee featuring jazz-inspired holiday tunes.

The event is planned for Dec. 14 at The Listening Room in Weston.

"Last year, Tania Grubbs and her 'A Cool Yule' show was very well received as a holiday-themed performance," said Eric Spelsberg, a project organizer for The Listening Room. “We thought a matinee show in Weston to brighten the holidays would appeal.”

The Tania Grubbs Quartet from Pittsburgh is slated to take the stage at 2 p.m. in the intimate 60-seat setting in West Hall, the social hall for St. Paul's Episcopal Church, located at 102 E. Second Street in Weston, three miles from I-79 Exit 99.

Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Reserved table seating is $30 per person or $100 for party of four, and includes a small bites buffet.
Music only seating is just $20.

Call or text 304-517-9813 or email WVJazzSocietyNOW@gmail.com for information and reservations.

The band features Tania Grubbs on vocals, Jeff Grubbs on bass, Cliff Barnes on piano, and James Johnson III on drums. The Grubbs are a married couple, and Mr. Grubbs also plays bass for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Their new CD, "The Sound of Love," was released in October of this year.

A reviewer of the CD wrote, “Vocalist Tania Grubbs doesn’t just sing nice songs. She crafts stories out of well-chosen songs with love and care - and lets the listener feel the spirit behind each note. The stellar quintet seemingly reads each other’s intent in building sounds.”

The Listening Room project’s goal is to identify and develop the human and physical resources needed to host and promote high quality music and cultural performances in the community.

Initial funding for the Listening Room project has been provided by the Lewis County Community Foundation, with additional support from the Vince Lewis Jazz Scholarship Fund, the West Virginia Jazz Society, Inc., St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the City of Weston. WVJS Inc. is a Weston-based nonprofit and a member of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce.
