Editor’s Note: The Annual Bridgeport High School Alumni & Friends Foundation, Inc.’s Hall of Fame Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Bridgeport Conference Center. Social hour/reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the dinner program following at 7 p.m. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees are Alan Dye, Jane Conley Riley, Laura Stevens Aliff, and Norman Tolley (posthumously). Tickets are $30 and may be purchased HERE. Below is our first inductee, Alan Dye.

Alan Dye is a 1985 graduate of Bridgeport High School and a 1989 graduate of WestVirginia University with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism. He was worked in many capacitiesat WDTV-5, the local CBS and FOX affiliate in Bridgeport, for nearly 33 years. He currently ischief videographer and commercial editor. He also serves as technical director for specialprojects for the station.

In 2004, Dye was named Clarksburg-Exponent Person of the Year for spearheading a project to bring a special needs classroom to Bridgeport High School. He solicited donations to make an efficiency apartment classroom so special needs students could learn valuable life skills to become as independent as possible.

He served on the BHS Alumni and Friends Foundation for nearly a decade -- eight of those as president. During Alan’s tenure as president, the Foundation grew in scholarship support and outreach to alumni and friends in ways that cannot measured. He supports autism awareness activities and produces public service announcements for the United Ways of Harrison and Marion Counties through his work at WDTV. He also leads 5th Quarter Fans Feed the Hungry, a program to help stock local Salvation Army food pantries.

Dye is the son of Bob Dye of Bridgeport and the late Garnet Dye. He and his wife, Lori, live in Flemington and share four children: Nathan (30), Iva Kay (15), River (12) and Kevie (11). The family attends Horizons Church in Lost Creek.
