Volunteers from GFWC Woman's Club and Bridgeport Lions Club Set to Collect Items for Shepherd's Corner

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 23, 2023

It’s that time of year. And as always, it is for a good cause.

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Lions Club will be collecting items to help Shepherd’s Corner restock their shelves with much-needed food and supplies. The Shepherd’s Corner provides items for needy families in Bridgeport and throughout the area.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, the groups will be driving through the city’s neighborhoods to collect the items. To help those volunteering, residents are asked to leave their contributions by your mailbox or at the end of the driveway for 10 a.m. on that day.

Individuals who wish to donate prior to that day can do so by going to the Bridgeport Municipal Complex on Main Street from Sept. 25 through Sept. 29 during regular business hours. Just go to the front office desk and leave your items with city staff and they will make sure it gets to Shepherd’s Corner.

Non-perishable food items that are sought include peanut butter, jelly or jam, spaghetti sauce with meat, canned past meals (spaghetti, ravioli, etc.), canned fruits (particularly apple sauce), pasta (spaghetti, noodles, penne, macaroni, etc.), canned vegetables (baked beans, green beans, corn, tomatoes, etc.), canned milk, soups, saltine crackers, tea bags and coffee, canned meats (tuna, chicken, ham, etc.), boxed potatoes and instant mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese (boxed or single serving size), cereal, pudding cups and fruit cups.

Personal care items that are sought include shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant (men’s and women’s), disposable razors, sanitary napkins or tampons, diapers for children (especially sizes 4-6), and bar soap, shower gel, or body wash.

Other items being sought that are not covered by food stamps include laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, toilet tissue and Kleenex.

Cash donations can also be made to help in the purchase of meat, butter, bread, and milk. Check donations can be mailed to: Shepherd’s Corner, P.O. Box 101, Bridgeport, WV  26330.
