Floral Design with Cara: Tips for Thanksgiving Centerpieces

By Cara Ewald on November 21, 2014 from Floral Design with Cara

Celebrate the holiday season in style with beautiful flowers for your Thanksgiving table.  When choosing your container, be mindful of the size and shape of the table that your centerpieces will adorn.  Size does matter.  A centerpiece should look like it belongs on the table, not out of place.   Here are a few style tips for your table...

Mix high with low.  Use tall taper candles with low centerpieces filled with seasonal flowers like hydrangea, ranunculus, roses, fall berries, and greenery to make a statement.  Mix with various gourds and pumpkins for a natural look.

Go rustic.  Use a birch lined container filled with red celosia, green button mums, eggplant calla lilies, and various seasonal greens.

Casual dining.  Keep it loose with a mix of herbs, fall foliage, and pumpkins or gourds.

Do something different.  There are no hardset rules about using harvest colors in your tablescape.  Try using pink garden roses, silver brunia, dusty miller,  white and pink hydrangea, with a mix of filler greens for a loose garden look.

Long and low.  These centerpieces are great for long rectangular tables and are great for keeping the conversation going.  Fill short vases with flowers, filler and leafy greens that trail onto the table.  Then tuck some leafy foliage under the container for a more dramatic effect.

Bountiful.  Use antique hydrangea, mini pumpkins, plums and twig spheres in a modern footed container.

No matter which you choose, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
