Time Travel: Aerial of Two Iconic City Retail Stores and Hollywood, NFL Legends in Huntington in Mid 2000s

By Dick Duez on January 23, 2022 from History Blog

This aerial shot, believed to be from the mid to late 1960s to the early 1970s, shows the former Hills Plaza and the two big anchors - Hills and Grants. At this time, Hills is located to the left and Grants is on the right. Eventually, Hills would move into the space occupied by Grants and the former Hills Space would eventually become David Weis. Any comments on memories of these two stores would love to be heard and can be shared in the comment section below.
This photo is believed to be from 2005 or 2006 and was taken in Huntington. As the shirt being worn by Hollywood legend Matthew McConaughey shows, it is during the shooting for "We Are ... Marshall." McConaughey is shown with former Thundering Herd football and NFL legends Randy Moss, left, and Chad Pennington, right.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. , the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing effortsDuez to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.
