Annual Bridgeport Food Drive for Humane Society and Shepherd's Corner Nets Plenty of Goods and Cash

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 03, 2022

The annual Bridgeport Police Department Food Drive proved to be a success and two local organizations are the recipients of the effort.

According to Bridgeport Police Chief Mark Rogers and School Resource Officer Jamie Hamrick, the drive provided much-needed supplies and funds for the Shepherd’s Corner and the Harrison County Humane Society. The event took place Nov. 16 and was held in the turning lane in front of Bridgeport High School along Johnson Avenue.

Along with the food and supplies donated during the event, there was nearly $3,000 donated by residents locally and perhaps beyond the city limits to the organizations. On Monday at the Bridgeport City Council meeting, some of the money was distributed publicly to one of the organizations.

Rev. Jim Lang of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church received $1,900 from the drive at the meeting. Hamrick said the Humane Society received in the range of $700.

“We were also able to donate 700 pounds of items to the Humane Society from food, blankets, bleach, cleaning supplies and more,” said Hamrick. “We also took two and a half trailers of food to the Shepherd’s Corner who let us know they are now at capacity.”

At the food drive, those who stopped got a chance to see Santa Claus as well as Hamrick’s therapy dogs Connor and Chloe. Connor was on hand for the check presentation Monday.
