BHS Journalism Department Provides Update on Yearbook Headshots, Senior Tape Content and Other Deadlines

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 24, 2020

SUBMITTED BY BRIDGEPORT HIGH SCHOOL JOURNALISM DEPARTMENT

With school transitioning from a physical to virtual experience to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, many school activities have come to a screeching halt. Adaptations have been made to overcome the struggles generated by the virus and to persist through the school year with as much normalcy as possible. The Bridgeport High School journalism department is working hard to uphold some of the most beloved school year traditions.

In the absence of teachers and students, several important deadlines regarding journalism activities have passed, including the yearbook order deadline, the senior head shot submission deadline, and the deadline to submit content for the senior tape. These deadlines are being extended past the original March 20th date to accommodate everyone whose plans may have been impacted due to school being out.

The Bridgeport High School yearbook, the Ki-Cu-Wa, is a large project that the yearbook staff has been working on for the duration of the school year. These students are continuing to do so despite the challenges that have arisen as a result of being displaced from the school building.

The 2019-2020 Ki-Cu-Wa will still be published. If you have not ordered a yearbook but would still like to, orders are still being accepted via SchoolCashOnline. To order your copy, navigate to the Bridgeport High School webpage and click on the link to SchoolCashOnline. From there, sign-in and find the listing for the 2019-2020 yearbook. The cost is $70.

Seniors have the opportunity to submit their own head shots for the senior portrait section of the yearbook. The photos are to be of the senior’s head and shoulders only and can be emailed to bhsjournalismyb@gmail.com. Please include the student’s name somewhere in the message. Questions can also be directed to this email address.

Another beloved tradition for seniors at Bridgeport High School is the senior tape. This video montage features baby, childhood, and senior photos of senior class members that have chosen to submit content. To have a successful video, we ask that as many seniors as possible submit content. This includes but is not limited to baby photos, photos from elementary, middle school, and high school, senior photos, and home videos. Content can be emailed to bhs2020seniortape@gmail.com.

As we continue to navigate the uncharted scenario in which we are in the midst of, we must remember to remain positive. We are all adapting to this new and ever-changing situation, so it is inevitable that mistakes will be made and miscommunications will occur. We must do out best to be gracious and flexible during this time of uncertainty. Please feel free to contact the journalism department with any questions regarding this information at bhsjournalismyb@gmail.comand we will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
