BMS Students Recognized and Rewarded for Raising West Virginia Assessment Test Schools by 5 Percent

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 30, 2024

Earlier this month, Bridgeport Middle School held a celebration to recognize 7th and 8th grade students for their high test scores.

The West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) was completed this past spring, and BMS students had a goal to increase their scores by 3 percent.  Administrators and staff at the school are more than pleased to see the scores increased by 5 percent.

This improvement is outstanding not only for Bridgeport Middle School’s student body, but teachers as well. The students were rewarded to a day in the city park with six stations of fun activities.  From ice cream sundaes to a foam pit and music, the students enjoyed the afternoon festivities.

"This celebration, as with others we have, isn't just focused on achievement but also improvement.  We don't just focus on students who have met the standards, but those who have also made improvement toward that standard,” said BMS Principal Gary Oldaker.

Last year’s 8th grade students who are currently Bridgeport High School freshman, will be rewarded later this fall.

The BMS administration thanked the students, their parents, and teachers and staff for the dedication to their studies. Administrators said their hard work paid off and does not go unnoticed.
