Bridgeport Arts Council Hosts Lunchtime Performance of Key to Adam at Johnson Elementary

By Julie Perine on March 17, 2023

Walking into Johnson Elementary School’s cafeteria at noon Tuesday was a calming experience. As students ate their lunch, they were entertained by Key to Adam, an instrumental duo known to create an ambient atmosphere. The music of Adam Moyer – finger-style guitarist – and Kiara Williams – violin/fiddle player – was brought into the school courtesy of Bridgeport Arts & Heritage Foundation.

“The foundation’s goal is to bring the arts to North Central West Virginia, especially to our youth in various forms,” said Lisa Lang of the arts foundation. “We are pleased to be able to provide the music of Key to Adam the students of Johnson Elementary. They are so talented and a joy to listen to.”

The music stretched across all lunch periods so all students could experience it. Their applause and interaction showed that they really liked the music, which ranged from Metallica to Canon in D to Kenny Rogers. The duo even played “Happy Birthday” for one of the students. As students exited the cafeteria, they indicated how much they had enjoyed the live music. Between songs, the musicians interacted with the students, some of whom had questions about the instruments and how they worked.

Moyer said he was pleased with the opportunity to play at the school and loved the students’ reaction to the music.

JES Assistant Principal Heather Holbert said it was a great experience for the kids.

“It’s exposure to the arts. Anytime we can expose our kids to something like this, it’s a great opportunity,” she said.

Moyer said Key to Adam will be playing at other area schools and the plans had been initiated even before he discovered that March was Music in Education Month.

Based out of Upshur County, Key to Adam plays through the region at weddings and venues including Stonewall Resort, The Greenbrier, and several others. The musicians hold numerous awards, the most recent being the 2022 WV Governor’s Arts Award for Resiliency in the Arts.
