Bridgeport Mayor Lang Makes Decision on Whether to Seek Second Term as City's Top Elected Official

By Jeff Toquinto on January 12, 2021

Will Bridgeport Mayor Andy Lang seek a second term as Bridgeport’s Mayor, or will he call it one and done?

As of this morning, it is official. Lang will be seeking a second term as mayor. Lang filed the necessary paperwork at the Bridgeport Municipal Complex to seek a second term as mayor. If elected, it will be the final four-year term for Lang as the city charter only allows mayors to serve two terms.

The filing period for the June 2021 election officially began Monday. Lang is the first person to officially file.

Why seeking a second term?

“I am involved with the North Central West Virginia Airport, the new indoor recreation center and with so many various things and I hope I am able to be re-elected to do the best I can to see these projects through,” said Lang.

Lang represents the city on many fronts, including the Benedum Airport Authority that a recent study shows has an annual economic impact exceeding $1 billion for the region. He also meets with local, state, and federal officials on the city’s behalf.

“If anybody thinks about wanting to run for office, I would be glad to talk to them about what to expect, including the position of mayor,” said Lang. “People did that for me when I ran, past and present council members including (former Mayor) Bob Greer by answering many questions to help me understand what the position entails.”

Lang is married to Lisa Queen Lang. They have one daughter, Miranda.

Along with serving as the city’s mayor, Lang is also a business owner. He operates G.A.L. Land Company (Glenn Andrew Lang), which has its office located on Main Street near the intersection with Center Street.

Four seats are up in the election set for June 8, including that of Mayor and three seats on City Council. The positions are currently held by Lang and Council members Dustin Vincent, Robert “Bob” Greer, and John Wilson.

According to City Manager Randy Wetmore, the cost to file to run is $25 and is due at the time of filing. Filing, along with paying to file, can be done no later than 4 p.m. on April 8, which is the end of the filing period.

Absentee voting applications may be requested through June 2 of 2021. All candidate packages, absentee applications, and any other information required or questions concerning the election are to be directed to City Clerk Donna Krivosky.

Krivosky can be reached at 304-842-8235. She can also be reached via email at donna@bridgeportwv.com.

Editor's Note: Shown is a photo of Lang at a work session of Bridgeport City Council. Connect-Bridgeport will attempt to do stories on all individuals that file for office one they have officially filed. If you have filed, contact us jeff@connect-bridgeport.com after filing to make arrangements for a story.
