By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 04, 2025

Anita Concetta Mutafis Lopez, 90, of Bridgeport, WV passed away peacefully at her residence on February 1, 2025.

She was born in Clarksburg, WV on February 3, 1934 a daughter of the late Harry and Argie Oliverio Mutafis.

Anita married Louis F. Lopez on February 18, 1956 who preceded her in death on July 26, 2004 after 48 years together.

She is survived by her daughter Tamra Diaz and her companion Raymond “Duke” Tackett of Clarksburg; her son, Ted Lopez and wife Crystal of Bridgeport; three grandchildren, Alyssa West (Kory), Zachary Lopez & Sophia Lopez and companion Jacob Shia; three great grandchildren, Layla West, Stella and Piper Lopez; her sister, Diana Shablack Sandy of Clarksburg; a special niece, Jodi McClung Barberio; as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close Johnson Elementary teacher friends and All Saints friends she frequently went to lunch with, and her extraordinary caregivers who have provided caring love, kindness, compassion and outstanding skill these last few years, Kim Kelley, Brenda Mayle, Tracy Coakley and Amy Hedrick.

Mrs. Lopez taught 1st and 2nd grades at Johnson Elementary from 1969 to 1999 when she retired and continued teaching for many years as a substitute. Her students fondly remembered her over the years and would always stop and say hello and ask how she was doing when they saw her. They always had nice things to say to her and reminisced about the great memories they had of her as their teacher.

Known as Moo Moo by her grandchildren and immediate family, she loved them dearly and they always brought big smiles to her face.

She loved walking and made it a point to always park as far from her destination as possible. She was also a movie enthusiast and loved Turner Classic Movies. She knew every movie ever made and every actor and actress who starred in them. She was an avid reader and always had a book with her. She loved doing the daily crossword in the newspaper. She loved her many trips to Disney World with her family.

Her family and friends love & miss her greatly.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Lopez will be cremated.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday at the All Saints Catholic Church, 317 E Main St., Bridgeport, WV 26330 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 10:00 am with Father Walt Jagela presiding.
