Bridgeport Rotary, BHS DECA Among Groups Serving Thanksgiving Meals for Friends Feeding Friends

By Trina Runner on November 21, 2020

For the last two and half years, Friends Feeding Friends has been doing community outreach in Harrison County.

The initiative was founded by Kevin Brand, Karen Alastanos and Michelle Freeman and has offered hot meals and resources to those less fortunate, including the homeless community.  On Nov. 18, members of Bridgeport’s Rotary Club, Bridgeport High School’s DECA Club and BHS’s Chick-fil-a Leader Academy joined forces with the other volunteers who regularly serve the meals.

“We are so blessed to be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner on our tables, but there are so many who are not as fortunate,” said Bridgeport Rotary President Brad Ford. “We are honored to be among those preparing and distributing food for the holiday as our November Service Project.”

Previous Bridgeport Rotary Service Projects included assisting with Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Building for foster children in September and Putt Putt for Polio to raise funds for the Polio Foundation in October.

Each Wednesday, free meals are served to anyone in need. The Thanksgiving meal was prepared by Bridgeport Rotary members on Nov. 17  at the Bridgeport Presbyterian Church and all groups joined Friends Feeding Friends volunteers to help serve the meal on Nov. 18 at First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg at 6:00p.m.

In addition to the Thanksgiving meal, Meadowbrook Mall Chick-fil-a owners, Ryan and Sarah Rutt, donated Chick-fil-a sandwiches.

Committed to their community, the duo launched the Chick-fil-a Leader Academy at Bridgeport High School last year and continue to support student initiatives throughout the year.

Along with Bridgeport Rotary, DECA, and Chick-fil-a Leader Academy Members, volunteers also included Becky Ketelsen, Jessica Hall, Casey Eckes, Karen Brand, Kevin Brand, Karen Alastanos, Jerri Rodeheaver, and the Good Shepherd Outreach.  Along with meals, the group also distributed blankets and hygiene items to attendees.
